The legendary UBOP investigator Valery Kur told how KGB agent Viktor Medvedchuk, together with his brothers Grigory and Igor Surkis, created an organized criminal group in Kyiv and how this group seized the Dynamo football club. Former Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk, according to Kur, was aware of what was happening. The ex-head of the Organized Crime Control Department spoke about this in an interview with 1 + 1 host Natalya Moseychuk.
Kur explains that Medvedchuk created the organized criminal group with the connivance and certain protection from the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
“This is how a kind of well-organized criminal group with a good economic basis appeared. Very solid, headed by Medvedchuk, who was able to do this at that time with the connivance of the authorities. Everyone knew that he was an agent of the KGB SSR and that his personal file was taken from Ukraine, and contributed to this, including law enforcement officers and our newly minted (Ukrainian) SBU,” he said.
According to the legendary UBOP investigator, Medvedchuk created a sort of structure – his own power – within the government. It included, in particular, the Surkis brothers and an absolute bandit, a former sportsman Cherep.
“So this Skull, an absolute bandit, with the blessing of people like Medvedchuk and the Surkis brothers, was included in this group as a representative of protection from the criminal world. After serving time in prison, he returned already hardened. And this group takes him to solve issues on gangster line: these are contract killings, provocations, raids, racketeering. Former President of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, at the same time, was aware of what was happening and was well aware that Medvedchuk was a KGB agent, the investigator emphasizes.
One of the first crimes of this UCP was the seizure of FC Dynamo, said Kur.
“One of their first crimes was the seizure of the offspring of Ukraine – Dynamo Kiev. It was practically a racket. And Medvedchuk organized it from a legal point of view, when Bezverkhy (the first president of FC Dynamo) was thrown out of the club, and all the main funds were in the hands of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.That is, “Dynamo” was in the care of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
How could the property of the republic, the state be transferred into the hands of an organized group? After all, everyone knew that they were criminals.
